Matthias Buchholz (missionary)
Matthias M. Buchholz MSC (born March 25, 1903 in Aachen . Germany ; † August 12, 1991 in Bethlehem , Pennsylvania , USA ) was a German religious , missionary and prefect of Shiqian .
Life
Matthias Buchholz joined the order of the Sacred Heart Missionaries (also known as Hiltrup Missionaries in Germany ). He made his profession on September 16, 1922 and was ordained a priest on August 7, 1927 .
Pope Pius XI appointed him on December 10, 1937 prefect of the Apostolic Prefecture Shihtsien (Shiqian). In 1983 the prefecture was officially dissolved by the Chinese side and Buchholz went into exile.
Matthias Buchholz was the council father of the second, third and fourth session of the Second Vatican Council .
