Matthias Günther (actor)

Matthias Günther (* 1947 in Halle ) is a German actor and university professor.

Life

Matthias Günther grew up in Halle, initially worked as a puppeteer and then studied from 1969 to 1972 at the State Drama School in Berlin in Niederschöneweide . From 1973 to the early 1980s he was engaged at the Städtische Bühnen Karl-Marx-Stadt , where he played Mephisto in Faust I and Faust II . In 1984 Günther played at the Volksbühne Berlin , later at the Staatstheater Dresden . Since the early 1970s he has appeared on television (mostly in theater recordings) and in DEFA feature films.

Günther left the GDR in 1986 . This was followed by engagements at the Theater am Neumarkt Zurich , the Schauspiel Köln , the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg , the Schauspiel Bonn and the Volkstheater Vienna .

After the fall of the Wall , Günther played at the Hans Otto Theater Potsdam and from 1996 to 2004 at the Renaissance Theater Berlin .

Günther has been teaching drama at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin (HFS) since 1998. In 2005 he was appointed professor of acting there.
