Matthias Hanke (* 1965 in Kelheim ) is regional church music director of the Evangelical regional church in Württemberg . Before that, he was district cantor for the Protestant church district in Böblingen and church music director in Sindelfingen .

Career

At the age of fourteen he took over the leadership of a church choir and a trombone choir in Kelheim, as well as organ service for three locations. Before graduating from high school, he took the D and C exams for organ playing. After studying music education and church music in Bayreuth and Munich (graduation: A-exam ), Matthias Hanke took over the management of pre-vocational music training at the Bavarian State School for the Blind in Munich . In 1995 he took up the position of church musician at the Romanesque Martinskirche in Sindelfingen. In 2003 he was appointed church music director by regional bishop Gerhard Maier as the youngest ever in the history of the regional church. He was also the district cantor in the Evangelical Church District of Böblingen . Hanke led several choirs in the Martinskantorat and the Stiftshoforchester in Sindelfingen. His outstanding local cultural projects were the "Sindlefinger Bachtage" and "Give space - the empty Martinskirche" with interdisciplinary concert concepts and church services. The artistic collaboration with Gerhart Darmstadt (Hamburg), overtone singer Wolfgang Saus (Aachen) and composer Helge Burggrabe enriched his work. He also enjoyed playing the cocktail piano in the salon music formation and went on concert tours with his family.

On April 1, 2016, he took up the post of regional church music director (LKMD) of the Evangelical Church of Württemberg and succeeded LKMD Bernhard Reich . His successor in Sindelfingen and as district cantor is Daniel Tepper .

Hanke and his ensembles regularly went on concert tours in various countries, including Brazil, South Africa, Italy, Poland, France, Spain and Russia.

He is married to the Austrian violinist Theresia Hanke . The four sons David, Lukas, Jonathan and Fabian appear in public under the name Hanke Brothers .
