Hans-Jürgen Jakobs (born October 28, 1956 in Wiesbaden ) is a German economist and journalist .

Life

After graduating from high school, Jakobs studied economics at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . After graduating, he volunteered at the Mainzer Allgemeine Zeitung and the Wiesbadener Tagblatt . From 1986 to 1989 he worked for the Handelsblatt publishing group in Düsseldorf , initially as editor for ZV + ZV and then as editor-in-chief of Copy . He then took over the management of the economic department of the Münchner Abendzeitung for three years . From 1993 to 2001 he was editor of the news magazine Spiegel in Hamburg . From 2001 to 2006, Hans-Jürgen Jakobs was the head of the media department of the Süddeutsche Zeitung in Munich . From 2007 to 2010 he was editor-in-chief of their online edition. From 2011 he was head of the business department of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. From there, Jakobs went to the business newspaper Handelsblatt , where he became editor-in-chief on January 1, 2013. Jakobs has been Senior Editor of the business newspaper in Munich since January 2016. He expressed respectful admiration for the journalistic course of the British business magazine The Economist . Since February 2018 he has been editor of the podcast “Handelsblatt Morning Briefing”.
