Lilium szovitsianum is a plant type from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ) in the section Liriotypus .
description
Lilium szovitsianum is a perennial , herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 50 to 130 (180) centimeters. The onions reach a diameter of 4–8 cm and are composed of numerous scales. The leaves, which are distributed in a spiral around the stem, are broad-lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 5 to 14 centimeters long and 10 to 20 millimeters wide.
The plant blooms from May to August with one to five, rarely up to twenty, funnel-shaped, pale yellow to sulfur yellow flowers that are strongly scented. They consist of six bent-back, almost identical bracts that are 6.3 to 9 centimeters long. The outer, inverted-lanceolate to linear-lanceolate bracts are 10 to 22 millimeters wide; the inner, inverted lanceolate bracts 18 to 22 millimeters.
The anthers are yellow, the pollen bright red. The stamens are occasionally fused together at the base of the flower to form a tube surrounding the ovary . The stylus is 23 to 37 millimeters long.
The seed germinates with a delay - hypogeic .
distribution
Lilium szovitsianum is found from Turkey over the Caucasus to the Crimea .
Systematics
Lilium szovitsianum is a close relative of the Crimean lily ( Lilium monadelphum ). Therefore it was classified as a variety of Lilium monadelphum . More recent molecular genetic studies have underpinned their status as an independent species, but still require further verification. The only difference between the species is that in Lilium szovitsianum the inner bracts are not narrower than 18 millimeters and are shaped slightly differently and the pollen is light red. The lack of agglomeration of the stamens is also frequently cited as a distinguishing feature, although this has been rejected as a diagnostic feature in recent literature.
