Matthias Russ (born November 14, 1983 in Reutlingen ) is a German racing cyclist . From 2003 to 2010 he competed in road bike races at a professional level.

Career

After Russ drove as a stagiaire with the Gerolsteiner team at the end of the season in 2003 and 2004 , he received a regular contract with this UCI ProTeam in 2005 . In 2005 Russ was able to convince with a fourth place in the overall individual ranking of the Regio Tour . He was able to repeat this placement in 2006 and was able to win a stage. With the Vuelta a España 2005 he contested his first Grand Tour , which he had to give up on the 15th stage. With the Giro d'Italia 2006 he was able to finish his first big tour in 74th place. 2007 turned 54 .; In 2008 he gave up the race.

After the Gerolsteiner team dissolved, Russ moved to the German ProTeam Milram for the 2009 season . At the Giro d'Italia 2009 he had a serious fall in the second stage and had to stop the race after breaking his collarbone. He also played the Vuelta a España 2009 and the Giro d'Italia 2010 , which he finished in 90th and 84th place.

At the end of the 2010 season, when the Milram team dissolved, he ended his career as a road professional and began studying mechanical engineering in Lörrach. At the same time he drove for the "Team CMTB" (Christian Mountain Bike Team) mountain bike marathons . In 2011 he took part in mountain runs for the first time. Here he won his first two competitions against well-known German and Swiss running greats in the Hochblauen Berglauf in Müllheim and the Stanserhorn Berglauf in Stans .
