Matthias Weber (economist)

Matthias Weber (born February 25, 1928 in Gymnich ; † June 23, 2006 in Hillesheim- Niederbettingen) was a university lecturer and local researcher .

Life

Youth, school and studies

Matthias Weber grew up in Gymnich and attended the local elementary school as well as a private "secondary school" in Lechenich . He then attended the municipal high school in Bergheim in order to be able to do his Abitur . He experienced the end of the Second World War with a serious wound that he had suffered as an anti-aircraft helper when he was 16 years old . After the war and the resumption of normal school operation he made his at the Bergheimer School High School .

From 1948 studied Weber at the University of Cologne Betriebwirtschafts- and economics , economic history and business education and graduated as diploma commercial teacher and business graduate from.

Working life

After several years of work in the economy, he switched to teaching as a teacher at commercial schools . Weber, who had taken up residence in Cologne, was taken over to the Faculty of Economics when he started teaching at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences , which opened in the summer of 1971 , and he was instrumental in its creation, and was subsequently appointed Professor of Economic and Social History for life. Weber taught until 1991 and then retired.

Weber was also associated with Cologne University of Applied Sciences for several years as a retiree. He was particularly interested in the historical university archive he had built . He also campaigned for the restoration of the old university building on Claudiusstrasse, which had become a faculty building of the FH Cologne .

A few years after retiring, he moved permanently from Cologne to his adopted home Hillesheim-Niederbettingen in the Eifel. His interest in the subject of contemporary history prompted Weber to study the history of his home in the Erftkreis as early as the 1970s. His research then led to the first smaller publications , which were followed by more over the years. This also included regional treatises on the local history of his homeland and contributions to the history of his adopted home Hillesheim-Niederbettingen in the Vulkaneifel . Matthias Weber died there and was buried in the community cemetery.
