Matthias Wentzel (born July 21, 1970 in Gera ) is a former German soccer player .
Athletic career
In the turnaround season, Matthias Wentzel played for the first time in the higher-class men's area of GDR football . For BSG Motor Suhl , then operating as 1. Suhler SV in the course of social changes in the GDR , the defender ran in the second-class league in 1989/90 .
In the summer before the reunification of Germany , he returned to FC Carl Zeiss Jena , to which he had belonged since the early 1980s and to whose junior top division team Wentzel 1987/88. In the last season alone the East German Erstligafußballs the 1.77 meter tall Wentzel in the established league team of the FCC . In 23 of 26 games in the upper house he was involved in the direct qualification of Jena for the 2nd Bundesliga in the now all-German league football .
In six second division seasons and two years in the then third-class regional league , Matthias Wentzel was one of the long-standing pillars of the team from the Ernst Abbe sports field in over 160 point games and twelve DFB Cup games in the 1990s . At the end of his playing career, the defender was under contract with FC Sachsen Leipzig for two years . With this club, the Jenaers had delivered a head-to-head race for promotion to League 2 in the Regionalliga Nordost in 1994/95 , which the Thuringians finally won on the last day of the game with a home win against FC Sachsen.
Coaching career
From summer 2006 to autumn 2008 Matthias Wentzel trained SSV Markranstädt . He later acted as sports director at SSV.
