Matthias von Pischof

Matthias von Pischof (born July 23, 1826 in Raibl , Friuli, † October 22, 1893 in Vienna ) was an Austrian railway technician.

Pischof studied at the Vienna Polytechnic Institute before he started as a railway engineer at the Banat Montanbahn and was involved in various constructions of this railway company. He was involved in the construction of the Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou – Brno railway line , where he and August Köstlin led the construction of the tunnels near Radostice , which were significant as dynamite was first used for blasting work here .

From 1870 he headed the construction department of the general inspection of the Austrian railways. In 1883 he became a councilor . When he retired in 1890, he was appointed section head.

He made particular merits when the state railroad construction began again in 1875.

Matthias von Pischof was the grandfather of Alfred von Pischof , who was also a technician.
