Matthias II von der Recke (* 1565 , † 1638 ) was the court master of the Duchy of Courland and Semgallia and came from the Westphalian nobility of the Recke . He is considered to be the founding father of the Baltic family line.

Life

As the son of Matthias I von der Recke zu Neuenburg († 1580 or 1581) and Sophia von Fircks († 1598) Matthias grew up in Westphalia . In 1592 he moved to the Duchy of Courland and Semgallia and was meanwhile an officer of the Elector of Brandenburg . From 1617 to 1638 he was court master and thus a member of the Courland-ducal upper council . Because of his services in the Polish-Swedish War (1600–1629) and in the Battle of Kirchholm , Matthias II and his descendants were enfeoffed in 1619 by Duke Friedrich (1569–1642) of Courland and Semgallia with the Talssen and Cabyllen courts. In 1620 the entry in the register of the Courland Knighthood was confirmed.
