Mattia ben Cheresch
Mattia ben Cheresch ( Mattja ben Cheresch or Charasch ; * in Judea ) was an ancient Jewish scholar; he worked in the second century AD and is one of the late Tannaites of the so-called second generation.
He was a student of Eliezer ben Hyrcanus and taught in Rome , where he founded a school, just before the Hadrianic War .
His motto, handed down in the sayings of the fathers (IV., 5), reads: “Precede everyone with a greeting. Rather be the lion's tail than the fox's head. "
