Normal way About the Rauhkopf ( II )

The Maurer Röte ( 2873  m above sea level ), formerly also Mitterrück or incorrectly called Galtenkopf or Galtenkogel, is a mountain peak of the Eichhamstock in the Venediger group in East Tyrol ( Austria ). It lies on the border between the communities of Matrei in East Tyrol and Prägraten am Großvenediger . Neighboring peaks are the Galtenkogel in the southeast and the Rauhkopf in the west. The first ascent took place on August 14, 1931 by R. Soudek, H. Koppitz, K. Soff and L. Wamprechtsamer.

location

The Maurer Röte is located in the far east of the Eichhamstock in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park . In the south is the Virgental , in the north the Malfrosnitztal (also Mailfrosnitztal). The sharp edge of the Maurer Röte is located between the Rauhkopf in the northwest and the Galtenkogel in the southeast, whereby the Maurer Röte is separated from the Galtenkogel by the Galtenscharte. The north face of the Maurer Röte separates the mountain from the Malfrosnitzboden.

Promotion opportunities

The Maurer Röte is insignificant in the Alpine region and is climbed through the ridge crossing from the Rauhkopf. To do this, first the path to the Rauhkopf and from there the descent into a deep notch where there is a stone man. Then the rest of the way follows a rubble channel south into the depths and then right around a ridge tower. After returning to the ridge, the ascent follows the ridge to a high rock tower, which can be climbed or bypassed on the right over steep slabs. On the Plattengrat the further path leads to the Gipfelscharte, then you reach a tower via Platten and over it or on an exposed band to the left around the tower the summit.

As an alternative, the southeast ridge from the Galtenscharte is suitable, although more difficult parts of this ridge can be climbed to the south ( II ).
