The 2005 Chinese Chess Team Championship (official name: 2005 Torch Real Estate Chinese Chess League ) was the first time this competition was held. Nineteen teams took part and the Beijing Patriots became champions.
The 19 teams initially contested a simple round-robin tournament in the preliminary round . The first six in the preliminary round qualified for the A-final, the teams in places 7 to 12 for the B-final, while the teams in the last seven places were relegated to Division B. The A-final was held as a double round-robin tournament, the B-final as a simple round-robin tournament. The last two of the B final were relegated to Division B. The number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of board points (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point) decided the placements for defeat).
Dates and venues
The preliminary round competitions took place from April 20 to 25, May 8 to 14 and June 21 to 26. The first six rounds were played in Jinan , rounds 7 to 13 in Wuxi and the last six rounds in Xiapu . The competitions of the A-final were played on August 11th, 18th and 25th, September 15th, 22nd and 29th, October 27th, November 17th, 22nd and 23rd . carried out until September 16.
Preliminary round
While on the one hand there were considerable differences in the level of play (Macau lost all competitions 0: 5, and the Qingdao School only won against Macau and lost all other competitions), on the other hand, the starting positions in the final groups were highly competitive. Only in the last round did the Beijing Patriots secure their place in the A-final by beating their direct rivals Wenzhou Law School, and the decision about twelfth place was only made in the final round in favor of Shenzhen Shirble.

While the Shandong Qilu Evening News, the Beijing Patriots and the Hebei Tianwei School were still close together after the first half of the season, Beijing started the second half of the season with four wins and was thus already the champions before the last round.

B final
Even before the last round, Wuxi Tiancheng Real Estate and Shenzhen Shirble had been relegated to Division B. However, since the Wenzhou Law School waived their starting place in the next season, Wuxi Tiancheng Real Estate still achieved relegation.
