Maurice Hurel

Maurice Hurel (born April 29, 1896 in Cherbourg , † September 18, 1982 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a French naval officer and aviation pioneer .

Career

Hurel entered the École navale in 1914 and stayed there until he was promoted to major . In 1917 he joined the naval aviators and acquired his pilot license there, first for land and then for seaplanes . After working at the Institut Supérieur de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace , he became technical director at Chantiers Aéro-Maritimes de la Seine , where he designed and flew numerous prototypes of seaplanes. He then was technical director at the Société Nationale de Constructions Aéronautiques du Sud-Ouest , where he managed the development of SNCASO Corse .

In August 1943 he fled with three of his sons and some of his engineering colleagues as well as Brigadier General and Commander-in-Chief of Corsica Amédée Jean Mollard via the Cannes-Mandelieu airfield from occupied France to Algeria to fight against the occupation of France.

In 1947 he founded the company Hurel-Dubois to his vision of aircraft together with Jacques Dubois wings very big stretch to realize.
