Maurice Sénart (born January 29, 1878 in Paris ; † May 22, 1962 there ) was a French engraver and music publisher .

Life

Maurice Sénart began at the age of 14 with the engraver J. Guillemard in Paris; afterwards he worked for master engraver Bodet, where he made friends with his client, the composer Alexandre Guilmant . In 1902 he took over Bodet's workshop and in 1908 Sénart founded a music publishing company with Benjamin Roudanez, whose first company it was. The aim was to bring out a popular edition of classical music at 25 centimes under the direction of Vincent d'Indy ; several collections of early music followed. He was less fortunate in the choice of works for contemporary music collections. In 1912 Sénart became the sole director of the publishing house and brought out his Edition nationale de musique classique during the war . Since he had difficulties securing the financing of his program, he made an association with Albert Neuburger in 1920 and converted the company into a stock corporation. Neuburger became artistic director of the publishing house, while Sénart from now on mainly devoted himself to his Imprimerie francaise de musique . The publisher expanded the National Edition by including the working edition by Alfred Cortot and textbooks by Paul Bazelaire , Lucien Capet (1873–1928) and others. a. included.

At the end of 1925 the publisher's catalog contained around 5,000 issues. At the beginning of 1941, as a result of the coercive measures taken by the German occupiers against Jewish companies, a temporary administrator was appointed and the Sénart publishing house was bought by the Salabert editions.
