Mauritius Enk

Mauritius Enk (also Moritz Enk ; * 1538 ; † December 13, 1575 ) was 1564 and from 1571 to 1575 librarian of the St. Gallen monastery .

Enk came from Altstätten . He made his profession on November 30, 1559 . He has been attested as a subdeacon since 1560 and as a deacon and priest from 1562 . Around 1564 he studied philosophy in Dillingen and theology in Paris around 1571 . Back in St. Gallen, Abbot Otmar Kunz appointed him librarian. His knowledge of the French, Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Syrian and Chaldean languages ​​is evidence of his learning. He also wrote more than a dozen papers on music and philosophy. In addition to the library office, he was apparently also a novice master and pastor in Wil .
