Codex Sangallensis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As Codex Sangallensis are manuscripts of the collection codices Sangallenses referred to in the St. Gallen abbey library are kept. They are specified in more detail by specifying their signature or by a nickname common in science.

Signature scheme

The usual signature of a codex in this collection is Cod. Sang. with a consecutive up to four-digit number in Arabic numerals. Because of their special meaning, some of the Codices also have other names, by which they are sometimes much better known (example: the Abrogans is actually Cod. Sang. 911 ). The most beautiful illuminated manuscripts in the abbey library from the 8th to the 11th century are or have already been digitized as part of the e-codices project . These digital copies are freely accessible on the Internet. On August 20, 2019, 3029 manuscripts were digitized, 2263 of which were available online.
