Mauro Sarmiento (born April 10, 1983 in Casoria ) is an Italian Taekwondoin . It starts in the weight class up to 80 kilograms.

Sarmiento played his first international title fights at the Junior World Championship in 1998 in Istanbul and the Junior European Championship in 1999 in Nicosia , where he reached the quarter-finals. In 2002 he finally took part in the European Championship in the adult sector in Samsun . Sarmiento achieved his breakthrough in the international top in 2007. At the World Championships in Beijing he was only eliminated in the quarter-finals, with a third place at the qualifying tournament in Manchester he also secured participation in his first Olympic Games in Beijing. The Olympic competition was very successful for Sarmiento. After three wins, he was only defeated in the final by Hadi Saei Bonehkohal and celebrated his greatest sporting success so far with the silver medal. He also won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Riga . Between 2009 and 2012 Sarmiento was able to reach the quarter-finals at two World and European Championships, where he was always eliminated.

In July 2011, Sarmiento won the decisive battle for third place against Nicolás García at the international Olympic qualification tournament in Baku in the weight class up to 80 kilograms and qualified for his second Olympic Games in London in 2012 . There the sports soldier won the bronze medal after a 4-0 win over Afghan Nesar Ahmad Bahave .
