Maurus Berve

Maurus Berve OSB (born January 12, 1927 in Berlin-Dahlem as Ulrich Joachim Berve ; † January 27, 1986 in Heidelberg ) was a German Benedictine and abbot of the Neuburg Abbey near Heidelberg.

Life

After graduating from high school at Arndt-Gymnasium Dahlem in 1943, Berve was drafted as an anti-aircraft helper and saw the end of the war in Denmark. In 1945 he entered the seminary in Fulda, shortly afterwards moved to the Benedictine Abbey in Neuburg and was the first novice after the end of the war. On January 6, 1948 he made his profession there and studied philosophy and theology in the abbeys in Maria Laach and Beuron as well as in Sant'Anselmo in Rome . On August 17, 1952, the Archbishop of Freiburg, Wendelin Rauch, ordained him as a priest in the Neuburg Abbey Church.

Maurus Berve was a librarian and guest father, and later also a cellar in the Neuburg Abbey. 1962/63 he was a librarian, first cantor, chefs and Intentionar Benedictine Abbey St. Mauritius in Tholey that also for Beuron Congregation , a group of mostly German or German-speaking Benedictine - and Benedictine belongs -Klöstern. From 1968 to 1973 Berve was Prior, Novice Master and Cellerar in Tholey. From 1973 to 1977 he was spiritual in the Benedictine Abbey of Säben on the Säbener Berg in South Tyrol .

On January 15, 1977, he was elected abbot of Neuburg Abbey, chaired by Abbot President Laurentius Hoheisel . On February 10, 1977, the Archbishop of Freiburg, Hermann Schäufele , appointed the newly elected abbot of Neuburg Abbey in the Neuburg Abbey Church.

Act

Maurus Berve got involved in health and old age insurance for the monks. He also introduced choral prayer in German. He was the author of many articles in the house journals of the Abbeys in Tholey and Neuburg. He also gave regular devotions and lectures in the radio media. In 1969 his monograph on the Heidelberg Poor Bible was published .

Breve was considered an expert in the field of Christian iconography.
