The Max Planck Gymnasium dates back to the 14th century. In 1357 a schoolmaster in Schorndorf is mentioned in a document. The Latin school burns down in 1634 and is rebuilt in 1650 after the Thirty Years' War . Around 1800 a collaboration class at the Latin school became a real class. In 1839 the Realschule (not to be confused with the current term) of the Latin School developed into an independent institution. In 1904 the Latin School was incorporated into the Realschule as a Latin department. In 1938 the high school for boys was established, from which the Schorndorf Oberschule emerged in 1946 and the Schorndorf Grammar School in 1955. In 1970 the school moved to the Grauhalde school center and was henceforth called the Max Planck Gymnasium.
