Max Bielefeldt

Carl Max Hermann Bielefeldt (born July 6, 1854 in Groß Garz , Altmark , † June 21, 1927 in Hanover ) was a German explosives chemist and industrialist .

Life

Max Bielefeldt was a son of August Ferdinand Friedrich Bielefeldt and his wife Agnes Pauline, nee. Donath. After completing his school education, he studied chemistry at the Technical University of Hanover . In 1874 he became a member of the Corps Slesvico-Holsatia . At the Georg-August University Göttingen , he was in 1880 with his doctorate in organic chemistry to Dr. phil. PhD. He then worked as an explosives chemist in Kalk near Cologne and manufactured explosives in Mülheim near Cologne .

In 1891, as the leading figure in a consortium that included Hugo Stinnes , Gustav Poensgen and Hugo von Gahlen , he founded the Westfälisch-Anhaltische Sprengstoff-Actien-Gesellschaft (WASAG) in Düsseldorf , of which he was appointed director general. WASAG was founded in order to break up the explosives monopoly of Dynamit AG . After WASAG had taken over the concession to build an explosives factory in Coswig from the ignition goods manufacturer Alexis Bischof , he built a plant there for the production of the basic chemicals sulfuric acid , nitric acid and glycerine , as well as the Reinsdorf plant for the production of dynamite and saltpeter , Gun cotton , Westfalit , explosive nitrate and other explosive chemicals. In 1907 he handed over management of the company to Wilhelm Landmann .

Max Bielefeldt married Johanne Meÿer, daughter of the married couple Johann Georg and Emma Caroline Ida Meÿer, on May 2, 1892 in Frankfurt am Main.
