Max Cetto (born February 20, 1903 in Koblenz , † April 5, 1980 in Mexico City ; full name: Max Ludwig Cetto ) was a German-Mexican architect .

Life

Cetto studied architecture at the Technical University of Darmstadt , the Technical University of Munich and most recently at the Technical University of Berlin with Hans Poelzig , where he graduated in 1925. He then worked for Ernst May in the Frankfurt am Main settlement office on the New Frankfurt project . From 1929 he taught for a few years at what is now the Offenbach School of Design .

In 1928 he was one of the founding members of the Congrès International d'Architecture Moderne (International Congress of Modern Architecture), which was a renowned forum for architects and urban planners until the late 1950s.

Between 1936 and 1937, together with other architects, he was responsible for the implementation of the construction plans for the Heinkel-Werke Oranienburg .

In 1938 he emigrated to the USA and worked in San Francisco with the Austrian-American architect Richard Neutra .

He went to Mexico in May 1939 and became a Mexican citizen in 1947. There he worked as an architect, among others, together with Jorge Rubio and Luis Barragán , and accepted several visiting professorships at US and Mexican universities.

The art historian Anna Maria Cetto was his sister. He was married to Catarina Kramis and they have three children.
