Max sky lifter

Max Himmelträger (born April 24, 1904 in Karlsruhe , † December 17, 2000 in Baiersbronn ) was a German inventor and entrepreneur .

Life

Himmelhub studied electrical engineering . He completed his studies with a degree in engineering. During the Second World War he was used as a fighter pilot, shot down over England and became a prisoner of war . In 1943 he was able to return to Germany because of a prisoner exchange.

Himmelhub invented chipboard in 1932 and received over 70 patents for related processes  . Before the invention of chipboard, only about 40 percent of the felled wood was used. Himmelhub became aware of this problem in the parents' carpentry shop and has since worked on a way to make the wood chips usable. The company he founded in Baiersbronn planned and built chipboard factories all over the world. In total, Himmelhub granted production licenses to around 80 companies.

Max Himmelhub was the founder and co-editor of the journal Scheidewege , which has been published by the Max Himmelheber Foundation in conjunction with Walter Sauer at the Hirzel Verlag in Stuttgart since his death . Sky lifter also tried to contribute to improvements in freight transport by rail.

He was also involved in the Association of German Scouts and became “Federal Commissioner for Leader Education” after the Second World War.

Awards

Max-Himmelträger-Strasse in Baiersbronn is named after him.

In 1987 he was awarded the Theodor Heuss Medal for his life's work and his “exemplary work for the common good” .
