Player career
After high school , Frye opted for a basketball scholarship to the University of Arizona . In four years in college, he averaged 13.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game, and received numerous individual awards, including an appointment to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team after his first season and three appointments to the All-Pac 10 team in the following years. After his time in college, Frye signed up for the 2005 NBA draft and was selected in 8th place by the New York Knicks .
Frye played his rookie - and sophomore season - with the Knicks. After his 2005-06 debut season , he was elected to the 2005-06 NBA All-Rookie First Team . In 2007 he was transferred with Steve Francis to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Zach Randolph , Fred Jones and Dan Dickau. On July 14, 2009 he signed a 2 year contract for 3.8 million US dollars as a free agent with the Phoenix Suns , where he averaged 11.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per in the 2009/10 season Game recorded. In the summer of 2010, he signed a $ 30 million contract extension for 5 years.
During a routine check-up before the 2012/13 season , Frye was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy . His further sporting career was therefore uncertain.
For the 2013/2014 season, Frye finally returned to the field and played a good season with the Suns. After the end of the season, his contract in Phoenix ran out. Despite another offer to stay with the Suns, Frye moved within the league and signed a four-year contract with the Orlando Magic . Frye played two less convincing years with the Magic and was transferred to the Cleveland Cavaliers in early 2016 , with whom he won his first NBA championship in 2016.
On February 8, 2018 he was selected by the Cavaliers along with Isaiah Thomas and the Erstrundenpick the Cavaliers in the NBA Draft in 2018 to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. transferred. After his contract expired, he decided the following summer as a free agent to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers on the basis of a one-year contract. At the beginning of the 2018/19 season , Frye announced that this would be his last. After the end of the season he resigned from professional sports.
