history

Founded in the Middle Ages as a fief of the Count Guidi family , the town fell under the control of the Republic of Florence at the beginning of the 15th century . In 1929 the place Pratovecchio Stia was created by merging with the neighboring municipality of Stia . This restored the administrative unit from 1872, when Pratovecchio was allocated to different parishes. Due to the dissatisfaction of both places about this merger, the places were separated again in 1934. The municipalities were merged again on January 1, 2014.
