Max Mangold
Max Mangold (born May 8, 1922 in Basel ; † February 3, 2015 ) was a German phonetician of Swiss origin.
He was interested in linguistic questions from an early age and learned many languages, e.g. B. also the planned language Esperanto created by Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof .
He studied in Basel , Geneva , Paris and London . Then he worked a. a. as interpreter for the United Nations on the demarcation line between North and South Korea . Habilitation in 1956. From 1957 he worked at the Saarland University . 1963 appointment as adjunct professor , in 1969 as academic councilor and full professor for phonetics , phonology and general linguistics .
Mangold achieved great fame with the publication of various pronunciation dictionaries . For example, he was responsible for several editions of the pronunciation dictionary up to the 6th edition (2005).
In addition to numerous dissertations, he oversaw other publications, for example on the dialects in Saarland and the dialects in Rhineland-Palatinate .
Max Mangold was Edith Braun's partner .
