Max Planck (pedagogue)

Max Planck , from 1886 von Planck (* July 8, 1822 in Feuerbach ; † April 8, 1900 in Stuttgart ) was a German educator .

Life

Planck, the second son of pastor Karl Planck, attended the Latin school in Nürtingen and from autumn 1836 the seminar in Schöntal . In 1840 he began studying theology and philosophy at the University of Tübingen , where he passed the first theological service examination in 1845. However, he did not turn to the pastoral ministry, but to the teaching post and became administrative administrator at the grammar school in Stuttgart. In the same year he became tutor to Minister of War Johann Georg von Sontheim (until 1847). During this time he received his doctorate with a dissertation on Aeschylus' Prometheus. In 1847/48 he went on a scientific trip to Italy with government support. After his return he became a repetiteur at the seminary in Urach in June 1848 , a little later a repetitionist at the monastery in Tübingen. In 1850 he passed the second theological service examination and in 1851 the philological professorial examination.

In 1852 Planck took up a position as a professor at the Karlsgymnasium in Heilbronn . In 1853 he became rector of the Latin and Realschule in Biberach , in 1858 professor at the upper secondary school in Ulm , in autumn 1878 rector of the grammar school in Stuttgart and a little later senior teacher. After founding the city's second grammar school ( Karls-Gymnasium ) in 1881, he was entrusted with its management. Most recently, Max von Planck was the director of the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs for scholars and secondary schools. In addition to his professional career, he was chairman of the high school teachers' association that he co-founded. On July 1, 1898, the day of his fiftieth anniversary of his service, he was retired at his request, conferring the title of president and appointment as an honorary member of the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.
