Max Proebstl

Max Proebstl (born September 24, 1913 in Munich ; † November 19, 1979 there ) was a German opera and oratorio singer ( bass ).

Life

Born in Munich, the singer studied at the music academy in his hometown with the famous bass player Paul Bender . At the age of 28 he made his debut at the City Theater of Kaiserslautern. From 1942 to 1943 he was at the Stadttheater Augsburg and from 1943 to 1944 at the Theater von Dortmund. He was then drafted for military service for a few months. In 1947 Max Proebstl returned to the Augsburg music stage. He stayed there for two years and then went to the Bavarian State Opera as a permanent member of the ensemble , of which he was a member for over 25 years.

Max Proebstl sang on almost every major opera stage in German and English-speaking countries. His brilliant roles were: Falstaff in the opera of the same name, Bartolo in Il Babiere di Siviglia , Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail , Kasper in Der Freischütz , Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro etc. His singing partners included a. a: Erika Köth , Hertha Töpper , Irmgard Seefried , Hermann Prey , Fritz Wunderlich , Hans Hotter and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau .

In 1957 the artist sang Count Starhemberg in the world premiere of the opera Die Harmonie der Welt by Paul Hindemith at the Bavarian State Opera . He was also a popular concert and oratorio singer. For example, he worked as an oratorio singer at the Salzburg Festival from 1961 to 1967. a. in the oratorio Christ on the Mount of Olives by Ludwig van Beethoven .

In Munich, Bogenhausen district, a street commemorates the singer.
