Maximilian Zander

Maximilian Zander (born February 7, 1929 in Berlin ; † November 21, 2016 ) was a German chemist and writer .

life and work

Maximilian Zander studied chemistry in Greifswald and received his doctorate in 1956 with Fritz Micheel on contributions to the knowledge of the low-temperature phosphorescence of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons and heterocycles . In 1957 he was a postdoc with the important polycyclic chemist Erich Clar in Glasgow . At that time, Zander was involved in the simplification of the Coronene synthesis and Clar's sextet rule for aromatics . He was then appointed research manager in the industry in the field of tar chemistry. From 1971 to 1993 he was a professor at the Clausthal University of Technology . In 1983 he received the Franck Medal at the international tar conference and in 1993 the "Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Research Award".

Zander has published poems and aphorisms since the mid-1990s. His laconic (again and again also metallic) poems, which u. a. Published in literary magazines such as ndl , Muschelhaufen , Faltblatt and anthologies such as Axel Kutsch , Versnetze (2005) or Theo Breuer , NordWestSüdOst (2003) as well as in four books of poetry, deal with everyday life and society from the perspective of someone who is experienced in the world in an ironically distant way People apart.

Zander died on November 21, 2016 at the age of 87.
