Maximilian von Pernstein (Czech Maxmilian z Pernštejna ; * 1575 ; † September 2, 1593 in Rome ) was canon of Olomouc and papal chamberlain . He came from the Bohemian-Moravian noble family Pernstein .

Life

His parents were the Chancellor Colonel of Bohemia Vratislav von Pernstein and Maria Manrique de Lara (1538-1608). When his father died in 1582, Maximilian was only seven years old. Since his parents intended him for the clerical profession, he already lived as a boy on the farm of the Olomouc bishop Stanislaus Pavlovský von Pavlovitz . As early as 1585 he turned to the Pope with the request that Maximilian, then ten years old, be given a canon in Olomouc . In March 1589 Maximilian was given to the Jesuit college in Rome, where he should pursue higher theological studies. In 1590 the Pope gave him the requested canonical in Olomouc. Although it was initially intended as a benefit , the lower consecrations were connected with it.

Pope Clement VIII , who was elected in 1592, was one of Maximilian's supporters . He sent him on a diplomatic mission to the Polish King Sigismund III. Wasa . Maximilian was supposed to bring him the Pope's wishes of blessings for the acquisition of the Swedish crown. After his return, the Pope confirmed the Olomouc benefit and also appointed him papal chamberlain . The promotion was supposed to bring Maximilian into discussion as a possible candidate for the successor to the Olomouc bishopric. This never happened because Maximilian, who was just eighteen years old, died unexpectedly in Rome at the beginning of September 1593.

Maximilian's body was buried in the Basilica of S. Maria Maggiore . The marble epitaph with the bust of Maximilian and the coat of arms of the Pernsteiners, which was built by order of his mother and composed of white and black marble, is to the right of the main entrance.
