Macedonian bark mushroom ( Hyphoderma macedonicum ) is a mushroom species from the family of the fold relatives (Meruliaceae). It has carpet-like, membranous fruiting bodies of whitish color and grows on dead wood of deciduous trees . The species is common in large parts of Europe .

Macroscopic features
Hyphoderma macedonicum has resupinate , membranous-waxy fruiting bodies typical of the genus Hyphoderma . They are whitish when fresh and ocher in color when dried. Their hymenium is smooth under the naked eye, but reveals pores and protruding cystids under a magnifying glass .
Microscopic features
As with all Hyphoderma species, the hyphae structure of Hyphoderma macedonicum is monomitic , i.e. it only has generative hyphae . The 3–4 µm wide hyphae are hyaline , thick or thin-walled and heavily branched, the septa always have buckles . The cystids are long and pointed. They are not encrusted (but covered with droplets) and protrude clearly from the fruit layer at around 60–120 × 6–8 µm. The basidia of the species are slightly club-shaped to approximately urn-shaped, have four sterigmata and measure 20-25 × 4-5 µm. They have a buckle at the base . Their spores are sausage-shaped, hyaline and thin-walled. They measure 6–8 × 2–2.5 µm, are inamyloid and always have an extension ( apiculus ).
distribution
The known distribution of the species covers large parts of Europe , but it is considered rare or not very common everywhere.
ecology
Hyphoderma macedonicum grows on rotten dead wood of deciduous trees . Typical habitats are deciduous forests.
