history

In 2010 the Mbombela Stadium was one of the venues for the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa. Construction began in December 2006. The construction costs amounted to 1.2 billion Rand (about 113.5 million euros ). On May 16, 2010, the stadium was officially opened with a friendly game between South Africa and Thailand , which ended 4-0 (3-0).
