Mečys Laurinkus
Mečys Laurinkus (born May 22, 1951 in Klaipėda ) is a Lithuanian politician and diplomat .
Life
After graduating from high school, he completed his diploma in philology at the Vilniaus valstybinis universitetas in 1979 and worked from 1979 to 1983 as a teacher in the district of Vilnius . From 1983 to 1990 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Philosophy , Sociology and Law of the Lietuvos mokslų akademija . He was a member of Sąjūdis . From 1989 he was a deputy in the Supreme Soviet of Soviet Lithuania , from 1990 a member of the Seimas . From 1998 to 2004 he headed Valstybės saugumo departamentas . Then he was ambassador to Spain , from 2008 to 2009 in Georgia . He works for the daily newspaper Lietuvos rytas .
