Medard Kehl
Medard Kehl (born November 9, 1942 in Berlin ) is a German Jesuit and Catholic theologian ( dogmatist ).
Life
Medard Kehl entered the Jesuit order in 1961 and studied philosophy and theology in Munich and Frankfurt. He was ordained a priest on July 26, 1969 in Frankfurt Cathedral . After further studies u. a. with Walter Kasper at the University of Tübingen he received his doctorate in 1975 at the University of Vienna . From 1976 until his retirement in 2011 he taught dogmatics and fundamental theology as a professor at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt am Main .
Kehl's numerous publications deal primarily with ecclesiology , eschatology and theology of creation . Many of his books have been translated into several languages and published several times. Kehl understands the church in the sense of the Second Vatican Council as “communio”, that is, as the community of God's people. He is also known for his theological analysis of the current state of the church.
Despite his university obligations, Kehl's pastoral work was particularly important. Among other things, he worked as a pastor in a children's home in Offenbach am Main and in a Christian home for the disabled ( Arche ) near Basel, and from 1977 to 2009 also in youth and Bible work in the parish of Ebersbach . Until 2015 he was a priestly assistant at the Herz-Jesu-Kirche in the catholic parish of St. Bonifatius in Frankfurt-Oberrad .
