Medardo Griotto

Medardo Griotto (born February 16, 1901 in Turin , † July 28, 1943 in Berlin-Plötzensee ) was an Italian resistance fighter against fascism in Europe .

Life

Medardo Griotto was born into an Italian family. He learned the profession of engraver. He had been one of Henri Robinson's agents since at least 1940 , possibly even before the start of the Second World War .

After Leopold Trepper had settled in France, he turned to Griotto and asked him to produce forged documents. Trepper and Robinson met in Griotto's house. Both took advantage of Griotto's ability to make fake passports and stamps. Griotto later became a radio operator for Robinson.

His wife Anna Griotto also worked for Robinson. She worked as a courier in the Robinsons group in France and helped her husband with the illegal work.

Griotto was one of Robinson's most important helpers. His wife was Robinson's personal secretary and liaison with various underground organizations.

Medardo Griotto was arrested in December 1942, in March 1943 a death sentence was passed against him by the Reich Court Martial , which was carried out on July 28, 1943 in the Berlin-Plötzensee prison .
