The Protestant Medardus Church and the Reichardsmünster , which has been expanded to form the Catholic Church of St. Medard , form a listed building complex in Bendorf in the Mayen-Koblenz district .

Evangelical Medarduskirche

Today's Protestant church was built in 1204. The building was badly damaged during World War II . The reconstruction between 1954 and 1956 was only partially carried out.

The three-aisled Romanesque pillar basilica with a square choir , two double bays and a semicircular apse has a facade structured by arched windows and pilaster strips . The upper storey was raised in the 18th century. The side aisles and the choir square are vaulted, and five niches are left under the windows in the apse.

In 1907, wall paintings from the time the church was built were exposed, which have been well preserved under the whitewash. The figurative paintings in the apse and on the triumphal arch were created around 50 years later.

The tower of the church and the bells serve both parishes.

Reichardsmünster and Catholic parish church

The Reichardsmünster is based on the south wall of the Medarduskirche . It was built around 1230 in the style of the knightly double chapels . After the Reformation, it served the local Catholic community and was included as a choir in an extension as early as 1790 . This was demolished in 1864 and made space for a south-facing neo - Romanesque church . By installing a mezzanine floor, the Reichardsmünster has now been set up as an organ gallery and entrance hall. Installed between the Medarduskirche and the new church adjoining at right angles, only the front sides remained visible. The interior is rectangular and surrounded by walkways, galleries and ancillary rooms. With the exception of the walkways, which are equipped with barrel vaults , all rooms have ribbed vaults .

organ

The Catholic Church has owned an organ made by Johannes Klais / Bonn since 1930 . After an expansion in 2008 by the builder company, it has 44 registers distributed over three manuals and pedal, as well as a free-standing console with an electric game and register action. The organ has the following disposition:
