  1. Commercial web offset printing ,
  2. Sheet-fed offset printing ,
  3. Decorative gravure,
  4. Digital printing ,
  5. Label roll printing,
  6. Form printing,
  7. Flexographic printing ,
  8. large format digital printing
  9. Illustration gravure,
  10. artistic printing process
  11. Wallpaper printing,
  12. Packaging printing,
  13. Newspaper printing.

The previously existing elective qualification units will be given new content. Data preparation for digital printing, control room technology, but also machine technology will play a greater role in the future.

The previously used working title 'printing technologist' is therefore not used.

Intermediate and final exams

Overview of the exam to become a media technologist in printing

In this profession, there is a conventional intermediate and final examination (i.e. no extended final examination ). The intermediate examination serves to determine the level of training of the trainee. It should give him information about where possible deficits lie that have to be compensated for by the final examination. The final examination is intended to determine whether the trainee has acquired the professional ability to act . He is supposed to prove “that he has mastered the necessary professional skills, has the necessary professional knowledge and skills and is familiar with the teaching material to be taught in vocational school, which is essential for vocational training. The training regulations are to be taken as a basis. ”The examination tasks are provided by ZFA Druck-Medien . The exam takes place in front of an IHK if the training takes place in an industrial company. If training is provided in a craft enterprise, the Chamber of Crafts is responsible for conducting the examination.

midterm exam

The intermediate examination covers the contents of the first three semesters of training and should take place before the end of the second year of training. The two examination areas work planning and printing technology are planned.

In the work planning examination area, the trainee should plan work steps, determine work equipment, select materials, take into account the requirements of work, health and environmental protection as well as economic efficiency, take over and check print data or printing forms, implement product and process data in the planning process, set-up and control processes on printing machines plan to take into account the interactions between materials, printing inks, substrates and printing machines in the printing process and to carry out print-specific calculations. This evidence is provided through the processing of written tasks in a scope of 120 minutes.

In the printing technology test area, he produces a test piece and documents his work. He has four hours for this task. He is supposed to show that he is setting up printing machines on a job-related basis, coordinating the printing result taking into account printing inks, printing materials and machine settings, and starting production, and performing printing process controls during production; Measure and check parameters and document results as well as optimize the printing process and the printing result.

final exam

The final examination consists of four examination areas:

Exam area weighting
Print production 50 percent
Order planning and communication 20 percent
Process technology 20 percent
Economics and Social Studies 10 percent

Examination area print production

The examinee completes a work item in seven hours. The optional qualification unit specified in the training contract is taken into account. In addition, a situational technical discussion is held that lasts a maximum of ten minutes.

He shows that he can adjust printing machines with regard to their basic settings and take machine-related relationships into account during functional tests, procure the specifications and materials required for work orders for setting up printing machines and start print orders. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that print results are checked and assessed visually and with the aid of measurements, and that interventions in the production process take into account the interdependencies within the printing press and with regard to the print result to be achieved and that they can be included in its actions. He should also show that he is able to produce print runs in the specified quality on time and can document his work with documents that are customary in practice.

Examination area order planning and communication

In 120 minutes, the exam participant completes written tasks on the following topics:

  • Customer-oriented planning and documentation of work processes taking into account economic, technical, organizational and personal requirements,
  • Planning of work steps including information from the upstream and downstream production areas,
  • Evaluation of machine data, compilation and backup of the data for order documentation,
  • Consideration of the properties of materials, printing inks and substrates as well as their interactions with one another and with the printing machines used ,
  • Execution of planning-relevant calculations.

Examination area process technology

In 120 minutes, the exam participant completes written tasks on the following topics:

  • Differentiation of printing processes with regard to their areas of application and assignment to main product groups,
  • Consideration and use of operational framework conditions and production specifications when using process-specific parameters as well as the production conditions with regard to printing machines, materials, printing materials, printing inks including color mixing systems and drying,
  • Application of quality assurance measures for the optimization of print results, use of process-related measuring and control elements,
  • Use of the production possibilities resulting from the techniques used,
  • Consideration of the requirements of print finishing,
  • Assessment of the functions of machine elements as well as measures for the maintenance of machines and systems,
  • Execution of process-related calculations.

Examination area economics and social studies

The exam participant completes written tasks in 60 minutes. He proves that he can present and assess general economic and social relationships in the professional and working world.

Passage regulation

The examination has been passed if the overall result is at least "sufficient", in the print production examination area at least "sufficient", in at least two other examination areas with at least "sufficient" and in no examination area with "unsatisfactory".

Oral supplementary examination

An oral supplementary examination of around 15 minutes is possible in the examination areas “Order planning and communication”, “Process technology” or “Economics and social studies” if the final examination can be passed. The prerequisite is that these examination areas were rated worse than "sufficient". A supplementary oral examination to improve the grade is not possible.

Codified additional qualifications

The training regulations stipulate that a non-selected optional qualification unit can be tested separately as an additional qualification .

Others

In the course of the reorganization, the artisanal apprenticeship as stone printer was canceled. An investigation by the BiBB had shown that the profession was "quantitatively insignificant, there is insufficient demand and meaningful schooling is currently not possible." By including artistic printing processes as an optional qualification unit, it was possible to dispense with the lithographic printer and the qualifications in the media technologist Integrate pressure.
