Meenambakkam ( Tamil : மீனம்பாக்கம் Mīṉampākkam [ ˈmiːnʌmbaːkːʌm ]) is a district of Chennai (Madras), the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu .

Meenambakkam is located on the southwest edge of Chennai, around 15 kilometers from the city center. Administratively it forms one of 200 districts ( wards ) of Chennai and belongs to the Alandur zone . Before the city expansion of Chennai in 2011, Meenambakkam was an independent city ( town panchayat ) in the Kanchipuram district with an area of ​​2.35 square kilometers and 4,774 inhabitants (2001 census).

Meenambakkam is the location of Chennai Airport . Most of the district is taken up by the airport grounds. The actual district consists of only a few blocks of flats between the airport grounds and the National Highway 45 (Grand Southern Trunk Road). Meenambakkam is home to the Meenambakkam metro station of the Chennai metro and the Meenambakkam station of the Chennaier suburban railway .
