Alandur ( Tamil : ஆலந்தூர் Alantur [ aːlʌn̪d̪uːr ]) is a district of Chennai (Madras), the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . Alandur forms one of 15 zones ( zones ) Chennais and includes twelve Neighborhood ( wards ).

Alandur is located in the southwest of Chennai, around twelve kilometers from the city center. The Alandur zone also includes the Meenambakkam district with Chennai Airport . Within the Alandur zone there is an enclave of the garrison St. Thomas Mount-cum-Pallavaram with the mountain St. Thomas Mount , on which, according to Christian tradition, the apostle Thomas is said to have been martyred.

Alandur is an important transport hub. At the junction at Kathipara Junction on the border between Alandur and Guindy , Chennai's main road Anna Salai (Mount Road), the inner ring road Jawaharlal Nehru Road , the arterial road to Poonamallee (Mount-Poonamallee High Road) and the National Highway 45 (Grand Southern Trunk Road) which connects Chennai with the rest of Tamil Nadu. The blue and green lines of the Chennai metro cross at the Alandur metro station . The St. Thomas Mount Railway Station , which is also located in Alandur, is from the Chennaier suburban railway ( Chennai Suburban Railway operated) and the green line metro Chennai.

By 2011, Alandur was an independent municipality ( municipality ) with an area of 19.5 square kilometers and 164,162 inhabitants (2011 census). The city was the capital of the Taluk Alandur in the Kanchipuram district . But the place had long since grown together with Chennai and became part of the Chennai agglomeration . Due to the city expansion of Chennai, Alandur was also incorporated into Chennai administratively. The former municipality of Alandur, together with the also incorporated towns of Meenambakkam, Manapakkam , Nandampakkam and Mugalivakkam, form the Alandur zone.
