St. Thomas Mount-cum-Pallavaram ( Tamil : பரங்கிமலை மற்றும் பல்லாவரம் Paraṅkimalai maṟṟum Pallāvaram [ ˈpaɾʌŋɡimalɛi ˈmatːrɯm ˈpalːaːʋəɾʌm ]) is a garrison with its own local government ( cantonment board ) in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . It is located in the suburbs of Chennai (Madras), the capital of the state, and belongs to the Kanchipuram district . The population is around 44,000 (2011 census).

St. Thomas Mount-cum-Pallavaram is located on the southwestern edge of Chennai. It has an area of ​​12.9 square kilometers and consists of two parts, St. Thomas Mount Cantonment in the north and Pallavaram Cantonment in the south. The two parts are spatially separated from one another by the Meenambakkam district of Chenna with Chennai Airport . St. Thomas Mount Cantonment includes the eponymous mountain, St. Thomas Mount , on which, according to tradition, the apostle Thomas was martyred. Since the city expansion in 2011, St. Thomas Mount has been an enclave within the urban area of ​​Chennai. The other part, Pallavaram Cantonment, is by the city of Pallavaram .

The St. Thomas Mount Garrison was established during the British colonial period in 1774, making it the second oldest in India. The Pallavaram garrison was established in 1882. In 1905 the two garrisons were merged.

65 percent of the residents of St. Thomas Mount-cum-Pallavaram are Hindus , 25 percent are Christian and 7 percent are Muslim . As in all of Tamil Nadu, the main language is Tamil, which is spoken by 87 percent of the population as their mother tongue. 6 percent speak Telugu , 2 percent each speak Hindi and Malayalam and 3 percent speak other languages.
