Sholinganallur ( Tamil : சோழிங்கநல்லூர் Cōḻiṅkanallūr [ ˈsoːɻiŋɡən̪alːuːr ], also Shozhinganallur ) is a district of Chennai (Madras), the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . Shozhinganallur forms one of the 15 zones ( zones ) of Chennais and comprises nine districts ( wards ).

Sholinganallur is located in the south of Chennai, around 20 kilometers from the city center, on the coast of the Bay of Bengal . The East Coast Road , which runs south from Chennai along the coast, and the parallel Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mahabalipuram Road) run through Sholinganallur . The so-called “IT corridor”, on which numerous information technology companies have settled, extends along Rajiv Gandhi Road . As a result, Sholinganallur experienced a considerable economic boom. Away from the main traffic axes, however, the infrastructure is still very poor.

Until 2011 was a Sholinganallur after the Panchayat managed system township ( town panchayat ) in the district Kanchipuram with 15,519 inhabitants (2011 census). The city was the capital of the talk Sholinganallur . But the place had long since grown together with Chennai and became part of the Chennai agglomeration . As a result of the city expansion of Chennai, Sholinganallur was also incorporated into Chennai administratively. The new Sholinganallur zone was formed from the former township of Sholinganallur and the also incorporated villages Neelankarai, Okkiam Thoraipakkam, Injambakkam, Karapakkam, Semmancheri and Uthandi.
