Valasaravakkam ( Tamil : வளசரவாக்கம் Vaḷacaravākkam [ ˈʋaɭəsaɾəʋaːkːʌm ]) is a district of Chennai (Madras), the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . Valasaravakkam forms one of 15 zones ( zones ) of Chennais and comprises 13 districts ( wards ).

Valasaravakkam is located on the western outskirts of Chennai, around ten kilometers from the city center. Until the 1980s, Valasaravakkam was a rural village, but thanks to the expansion of Chennai and the construction of new residential areas, the district is now heavily urbanized. By 2011 Valasaravakkam was an independent municipality ( municipality ) in the district Tiruvallur with an area of 8.0 square kilometers and a population of 30,265 (2001 census). But the place had long since grown together with Chennai and became part of the Chennai agglomeration . With the city expansion of Chennai, Valasaravakkam was also incorporated into Chennai administratively. The former municipality of Valasaravakkam together with the also incorporated places Maduravoyal , Nerkundram , Nolampur , Ramapuram , Porur and Karampakkam form the Valasaravakkam zone.
