The Taluk Sholinganallur ( Tamil : சோளிங்கநல்லூர் வட்டம் ) is a Taluk ( sub- district) of the Kanchipuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . The main town is the eponymous city of Sholinganallur .

geography

The Taluk Sholinganallur is located in the northeast of the Kanchipuram district in the suburbs of the metropolis of Chennai (Madras) on the coast of the Bay of Bengal . It borders on the Taluks Chengalpattu in the south, Tambaram in the west and Alandur in the northwest and the city district of Chennai in the north. The area of ​​the Taluk Sholinganallur is 135.5 square kilometers.

history

The Taluk Sholinganallur was created in 2009 when the Taluk Tambaram was divided into the three taluks Tambaram, Alandur and Sholinganallur. As a result of the city expansion of Chennais in 2011, part of the Taluk Sholinganallur including the main town of Sholinganallur was incorporated into the city of Chennais.
