The Taluk Tambaram ( Tamil : தாம்பரம் வட்டம் ) is a Taluk ( sub- district) of the Kanchipuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . The main town is the eponymous city of Tambaram .

geography

The Taluk Tambaram is located in the northeast of the Kanchipuram district in the suburbs of the metropolis of Chennai (Madras). It borders the Taluks Alandur in the north, Sholinganallur in the east, Chengalpattu in the south and Sriperumbudur in the west.

With an area of ​​only 20.2 square kilometers, Tambaram is the smallest taluk in the Kanchipuram district.

According to the 2011 census, the Taluk Tambaram has 390,279 inhabitants. Due to its proximity to the metropolis of Chennai, the Taluk is heavily urbanized and very densely populated: 92.7 percent of the population is classified as urban, only 7.3 percent as rural. The population density is 19,320 inhabitants per square kilometer.
