The Taluk Cheyyur ( Tamil : செய்யூர் வட்டம் ) is a taluk ( sub- district) of the Kanchipuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . The main town is the eponymous place Cheyyur .

geography

The Taluk Cheyyur is located in the south of the Kanchipuram district on the coast of the Bay of Bengal . It borders on the Taluks Maduranthakam in the west and Tirukalukundram in the north as well as on the Viluppuram district in the south. In the north, the Palar River borders the Taluk Cheyyur.

The Taluk Cheyyur is congruent with the blocks Chithamur and Lathur. Its area is 616.9 square kilometers.

According to the 2011 census, the Taluk Cheyyur has 196,807 inhabitants. Compared to other parts of the Kanchipuram district, the Taluk Cheyyur is very rural and relatively sparsely populated: 86.2 percent of the population are classified as rural and 13.8 percent as urban. The population density is 330 people per square kilometer, the lowest of all Taluks in Kanchipuram District.
