The Taluk Maduranthakam ( Tamil : மதுராந்தகம் வட்டம் ) is a Taluk (sub-district) of the Kanchipuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . The main town is the eponymous city of Maduranthakam .

geography

The Taluk Maduranthakam is located in the southwest of the Kanchipuram district. It borders on the Taluks Uthiramerur in the north, Chengalpattu in the northeast, Tirukalukundram in the east and Cheyyur in the southeast as well as the districts of Viluppuram in the south and Tiruvannamalai in the west. In the northeast, the Taluk Maduranthakam is bounded by the Palar River.

The Taluk Maduranthakam is congruent with the blocks Maduranthakam and Acharapakkam. Its area is 760.0 square kilometers.

According to the 2011 census, the Taluk Maduranthakam has 272,669 inhabitants. Compared to other parts of the Kanchipuram district, the Taluk Maduranthakam is very rural and relatively sparsely populated: 80.3 percent of the population are classified as rural and 19.7 percent as urban. The population density is 359 inhabitants per square kilometer.
