Meesdorf is a district of Buer in the town of Melle in the district of Osnabrück . The place in the Huntetal is surrounded by the Wiehen Mountains.

particularities

The “red post” is a special feature. It was part of a path marking for a trade route from the 19th century. The traders from Bremen had to harness additional draft horses in the Kalbsiek for their heavy commercial wagons on the slope of the Bad Essener Bergstrasse. The red stake was the first meeting point at the top of the mountain. Here you were safe from the robbers who took advantage of the slope.

A boulder with an attached memorial plaque can be seen in the middle of the village at the bus stop, in the direction of Buer . "Miärstrup" is the inscription and is meant to remind of the millennial history in its own language.

Many hiking trails lead from Meesdorf into the Wiehengebirge, z. B. to Rattinghausen or Markendorf.

In the Huntetal, the dinosaur tracks of Barkhausen are located directly on the Meesdorf border . This archaeological exhibition in Barkhausen shows a number of dinosaur footprints and offers a parking lot and canopy.

Industry

Agriculture uses most of the area in the village with local farms. Forestry is strong and the goods mostly go to the local sawmill. A large metal construction company as well as an agricultural machinery trade are located in the village next to a junkyard and many small businesses.

Others

The campsite is a summer camp for many school vacation trips. The soccer field is also used for parties and events, as well as for the training of the local sports club "Grün-Weiß Meesdorf".

"Metdisdorphe" is mentioned as a peasantry in 1000 AD in a historical context.
