Megumi Tachimoto

Megumi Tachimoto ( Japanese 田 知本 愛 Tachimoto Megumi ; born January 27, 1989 ) is a former Japanese judoka . She won one silver medal and four bronze medals in the heavyweight and open class at world championships.

Athletic career

Megumi Tachimoto was third in the heavyweight division in the U20 Asian Championships in 2005. In 2008 she won the Junior World Championships. At the end of 2008 she won a bronze medal at the World Championships in the open class after losing to Chinese Tong Wen in the semifinals . In 2010 she won the World Cup tournament in Budapest. At the Grand Slam tournament in Moscow, she lost to her compatriot Maki Tsukada in the final . At the 2010 World Championships in Tokyo, she won a bronze medal in the open class. Two months later, she won a bronze medal in the open class at the 2010 Asian Games . In December 2010 she won the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo against the Cuban Idalys Ortíz . At the beginning of 2011 Tachimoto won the Masters tournament in Baku and three weeks later the Grand Slam tournament in Paris . In April 2011 she won the Asian Championships in Abu Dhabi and in June the Grand Slam in Rio de Janeiro . At the 2011 World Championships in Paris, she took fifth place in the heavyweight division, and two months later she also reached fifth place at the World Championships in the open class held in Tyumen. At the end of the year, she lost to her compatriot Mika Sugimoto in the final of the Tokyo Grand Slam tournament .

At the beginning of 2012, she won the Grand Slam in Paris with a final victory over Russian Jelena Iwaschtschenko . At the Japanese Championships in 2012, she finished third behind Mika Sugimoto and Kanae Yamabe . Mika Sugimoto competed at the 2012 Olympics and won silver behind Idalys Ortíz. Megumi Tachimoto won the final of the Grand Slam in Tokyo against Olympic champion Ortíz at the end of 2012. In early 2013, she defeated Ortíz in the final of the Grand Slam in Paris. At the 2013 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Tachimoto defeated South Korean Lee Jung-eun in the quarter-finals and lost to Idalys Ortíz in the semi-finals. In the battle for bronze she defeated the Bosnian Larisa Cerić . At the end of 2013, Megumi Tachimoto won the Tokyo Grand Slam, beating her compatriot Sarah Asahina in the semifinals and Kanae Yamabe in the final. At the 2014 World Championships in Chelyabinsk she defeated the Tunisian Nihel Cheikh Rouhou in the quarter-finals , and in the semifinals she was defeated by the Brazilian Maria Suelen Altheman . In the battle for bronze, Tachimoto defeated the German Jasmin Külbs . In 2015, Tachimoto won both the heavyweight title and the open class at the Japanese championships. At the 2015 World Championships in Astana, she defeated Idalys Ortíz in the quarter-finals and the Russian Xenija Tschibissowa in the semifinals . In the final she was defeated by the Chinese Yu Song . In early 2016, she won the Paris Grand Slam again. At the Olympic Games, Kanae Yamabe started, who Tachimoto had defeated in the final of the Japanese championships in the open class.
