Niek van der Velden (born May 28, 2000 ) is a Dutch snowboarder . He starts in the disciplines of slopestyle and big air .

Career

Van der Velden started in Landgraaf for the first time in the European Cup in November 2013 and finished 18th in the Slopestyle. In 2014 and 2015 he won the Slopestyle at the European Cup in Landgraaf. At the Snowboard Junior World Championships 2016 on the Alpe di Siusi , he finished eighth in slopestyle and seventh in big air. In November 2016, he completed his first World Cup in Pyeongchang , which he finished in 20th place in big air. At the 2017 Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada , he came in 53rd place in Big Air and 44th in Slopestyle. At the end of August 2018 he won the silver medal in Slopestyle at the Junior World Championships in Cardrona . He also achieved tenth place in Big Air there. In the 2018/19 season he came in eight World Cup starts, six times in the top ten and thus reached ninth place in the Big Air World Cup, seventh place in the Freestyle World Cup and sixth Place in the Slopestyle World Cup. At the season highlight, the 2019 Snowboard World Championships in Park City , he finished sixth in slopestyle.
