Mehmet Öz
Mehmet Cengiz Öz (born June 11, 1960 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is a Turkish -born American cardiologist and television presenter . Öz initially gained national fame as a health professional on the Oprah Winfrey Show . He later became the moderator of the Dr. Oz Show , a pseudoscientific show that deals with the topic of health and nutrition and is primarily dedicated to middle-aged women.
Life
Origin and academic career
Öz was born in Cleveland in 1960 to Suna and Mustafa Öz . His parents come from Konya , a Turkish city in central Anatolia, and immigrated to the United States in 1955 .
After graduating from Tower Hill School in Wilmington , Delaware , he received his bachelor's degree in biology from Harvard University in 1982 and an American Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Masters in Business Administration (MBA ) in 1986 ) at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine and Penn's Wharton School . He celebrated some athletic successes in college sports , especially American football and water polo .
In 2001, Öz took up a chair in the department of surgery at Columbia University in New York.
Act on television
Initially, Mehmet Öz was a supporting character on the Oprah Winfrey Show and appeared for five years as a health expert at Winfrey's side . 2009 started Öz, using Sony Pictures Television , his own show called Dr. Producing Oz Show for American television .
The show fell victim to harsh criticism . The program was often viewed as not scientifically well-founded or too pseudo-scientific , as certain, unproven effects of Öz were described as real findings. This was particularly the case in the area of weight reduction , as Öz also sells some of its own products here.
Hereby established for the accused pseudoscience some renowned doctors from the United States , the Chair of Öz at the Columbia University in question. Öz was therefore awarded the Pigasus Award three times .
In April 2020, he came under fire because, in an interview on Fox News , he believed a mortality rate of 2 to 3% for reopening schools during the Covid-19 pandemic was acceptable.
